Do I look cool, calm and collected? It was actually over 40 degrees (100 F) on this day! I must remember to plan all my latex shoots in the cooler months!

Going for a bit of a 'South Pacific' feel with the colour filters on this pic, though not quite as over the top as the movie!

It's important to choose appropriate props for your shoot, but they should complement the model, not dominate the picture.

These days black and white photography is often associated with something nostalgic or vintage. To get a truly authentic vintage looking black and white photograph you can't simply switch a colour photograph using a filter, you need to replicate the lighting styles used in earlier times.

The little details can make a big difference. Look out for accessories that complement your outfit or theme such as hats, gloves, handbags or hair flowers. This lovely hair flower is by Berry Bombshell.

A pic from a recent 'boudoir' style shoot with Whiskey and Rye Photography.

Boudoir is French for a lady's private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room.
Boudoir photography aims to create an erotic or semi-nude portrait where the nudity is generally implied rather than explicit. These are usually shot in a studio or luxury hotel suite.
Boudoir portraits are popular for brides-to-be to surprise their future husband, anniversaries, birthdays or Valentine's day gifts.

A classic Bettie Page pose. Be sure to rise up slightly off your heels to give your thighs a more flattering line!
The tiki is carved from a piece of vintage teak that was originally used as a grain mill.

As well as 40s and 50s vintage glamour, I do love the 60s look. This photo is from a 60s styled set we did.
I am showing off my Rockabetty bag which has a personalised pin up doll inside.

What can I say? I'm a bit of a geek! I have loved Star Trek and Doctor Who for as long as I can remember!
How glamorous were the ladies in the original series? I am still fascinated by Yeoman Rand's hair. Things have gotten a bit too realistic these days, though it is good to see strong female characters like Uhura in the latest movie.

This photo is from my first glamour/pinup photoshoot in November 2011!
The costume is my own and I especially love the mini top hat that I bought from Burlesque Baby in Perth.
As it was my first photoshoot I was a bit nervous, but a good photographer can make you feel comfortable and help you out with posing ideas. If you do feel a bit stuck when posing, props can sometimes make things easier. Think about what suits the theme, such as a parasol or fan, or in this case a cane, and see what different ways you can use it. Props add to the narrative and vintage feel of the photo.

At Whiskey & Rye Photography, I am always on hand to give advice on posing and facial expressions, as well as look out for those annoyances like visible bra straps!

The best advice is to relax and have fun! It will show in your final images.
